I think for the most part these kids seem to be having fun! Any awkwardness is more likely due to being in the centre of a group of peers having to play their part in the game whilst being filmed. Wonder if in 50 years there will be folklore videos of kids from our time gathering round an ipod scoping the latest download.
    This is a great vid

Sorry but why would you cry over this? I can see why it’s good, but come on…

  11. Shipskeel says:

These kids are from some downtown community school. Your dismissal of many elements here shows a lack of understanding in many areas. These songs and activities are being, if not already have been, lost because the peoples of, in this case, the barrier islands with their rich history and legacy, are being erased by “development” of these sea islands along the SC and GA coasts.

  12. Shipskeel says:

How old are you? Whatever it is, you are exposing your vast ignorance. These are folk songs for children with much meaning to the actions played out by the group, such activities lost to today’s “sophisticated” youth. The film is most likely from the early 1960s.

ROFL gives you goose pimples ROFL noob, so stupid, we had to watch this stupid song with these nerdy kids dancing with 6 inch thick glasses and tight denim shorts it was quite horrific

I’m curious why some of the commenters here are gushing so much over this. What’s the big deal? Sure it’s nice to have historic footage. But it’s not very natural–the boys especially look like they’re being forced to have fun by some folklore patrol. Did people here not play games as kids..?? And sorry, but the banjo by Seeger is totally unnecessary. awkwardness all around

    “Lope like a buzzard”
I see why Sam Amidon made a cover of this. It’s like a weird sermon.

Little Johnny Brown is one of my favorite songs – it’s increadible to finally see it “performed” as the children’s song it is.
